About Ram Kumar Subramanyan, MD
Dr. Subramanyan obtained his medical degree in 1998 at Madras Medical College in India. He subsequently entered USC and established an excellent educational track record, obtaining a Ph.D. in Pathobiology, while successfully completing both a general surgery residency program and a cardiothoracic surgery fellowship. In addition, he completed a congenital heart fellowship in June 2012 and was appointed as Assistant Professor of Surgery in the Department of Surgery the following month. Dr. Subramanyan is recognized by our faculty as one of the most intelligent and accomplished young surgeons they have ever had the privilege of training. His dedication to patient care, professional demeanor and outstanding surgical skills quickly placed him in the top tier of cardiothoracic surgeons. Dr. Subramanyan is also a surgeon-scientist who runs a basic science research lab studying molecular signaling by endothelial and endocardial membrane proteins. His research focuses on the mechanisms governing the development of heart and blood vessels in humans and animal models. Such information is applied in the translational realm of pro-angiogenic stimuli to improve end-organ perfusion and tissue recovery from ischemia, and anti-angiogenic mechanisms to favorably impact vascular proliferative disorders, including cancer. Dr. Subramanyan has over 30 peer-reviewed publications, co-authored two books, several textbook chapters and over 20 presentations in a variety of conferences.
There is always hope. My team and I will keep researching to come up with as many innovative, transformative therapies as we can.
