Meet Alexander Weber, MD

Dr. Weber is an orthopedic surgeon at Keck Medicine of USC, who specializes in sports medicine, arthroscopic surgery and shoulder replacement.

Here’s what you won’t find on his resume.

Volleyball paved the way to sports medicine.

“Growing up, I played a ton of volleyball and made the Juniors National Team. My initial plan was to make a career playing professionally.

I always joke that everything was on track until sophomore year of high school — when everyone else on the team kept growing in height, and I didn’t! I decided if I couldn’t be a high-level athlete, I would like to take care of high-level athletes and switched my focus to sports medicine.”

Coaching is on his bucket list.

“When I can get away, I love traveling to new destinations. I’d like to visit all seven continents and travel across the United States in an RV. I would also love to coach my son Ethan’s sports teams as he grows up.”

He credits his work ethic to his two dads.

“My parents divorced when I was young, and both remarried, so I have always remembered having two dads. Both are incredibly hardworking and dedicated to their families. They have been my inspiration to be the hardest worker I can be.”

“The best piece of advice I ever received is: Be like a duck — calm and collected on the surface but paddling like heck underneath.”

He wouldn’t trade his career with anyone.

“I have the best job in the world and wouldn’t trade it for anything. I love what I do, and I’m passionate about treating my patients like I would treat my family. I’m also incredibly proud to be doing what I love as part of the USC Epstein Family Center for Sports Medicine.”

Helping his patients recover is deeply rewarding.

“The absolute best part of being a sports medicine surgeon is getting patients back to the activities they couldn’t do because of their injury. We are able to help by providing a wide range of treatment options. It’s deeply gratifying when you get a note from a patient letting you know that they were able to complete a marathon or get back to competitive sports.”

Keck Medicine is where he wants to be.

“Being on the team at the USC Epstein Family Center for Sports Medicine is an honor. It’s a real credit to our chair, Dr. Jay Lieberman, and his leadership. He has assembled an amazing group of sports medicine physicians.

There is no better job than taking great care of patients, including high-level USC athletes and the LA Kings, while also teaching the next generation of surgeons and leading the research that will push our field forward.”
