The NMO Clinic at the Roski Eye Institute
At the Roski Institute at USC Keck, our specialized Neuroimmunology and Neuro-Ophthalmology teams collaborate to provide comprehensive care for patients with confirmed or suspected Myelin Oligodendrocyte Glycoprotein Antibody-Associated Disease (MOGAD), Neuromyelitis Optica Spectrum Disorder (NMOSD) and related disorders.
NMO is a rare neuroimmune condition in which the immune system attacks cells in the central nervous system (CNS), mistaking them for foreign invaders. Common symptoms include vision loss, color vision deficiency, paralysis, paraparesis, weakness, numbness, spasticity, vomiting, hiccups, and bladder/bowel dysfunction.
Our mission is to reduce the burden of lasting damage to your nervous system. At the NMO clinic, we bring you a detailed understanding of NMO so you can get the care you need. Your team may include neurologists, ophthalmologists, radiologists and other experts.
Prior to their appointment, all patients undergo advanced imaging with Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) and visual field testing to assess the structure and function of the optic nerve. During the visit, patients are jointly evaluated by both the Neuroimmunology and Neuro-Ophthalmology specialists, ensuring a thorough assessment and the creation of a shared, individualized medical plan. This multidisciplinary approach prioritizes integrated care for patients with these complex neuroimmune conditions.
In addition to short-term care, our doctors design personalized long-term plans to manage your condition.
