Arm Pain and Numbness Caused by Radiculopathy
Cervical radiculopathy causes pain and numbness to spread from your neck to your arms and into your hands. Radiculopathy symptoms occur when a nerve in your neck becomes irritated or compressed from causes, such as:
- Bulging discs
- Degenerative disc disease
- Spinal stenosis
Our doctors diagnose radiculopathy by assessing your symptoms and doing a physical exam. When needed, an electrogram (EMG) is done to test muscle function. Radiculopathy treatment includes anti-inflammatory and pain medications, supportive neck braces, steroid injections, rest and disc replacements. If your arm pain does not improve, a spine surgeon can remove bulging discs and bone spurs in your neck.
