About David R. Friedland, MD
David Friedland MD, PhD, uses an evidence-based approach to provide exceptional care for patients with ear, hearing and balance disorders. He values shared decision making and takes the time to educate each patient about their condition and all treatment options.
His relationship with patients is based on trust and understanding. Each person who comes to see Dr. Friedland can rely on him for accurate information and optimal treatment based on his many years of clinical care.
In addition to his clinical responsibilities, Dr. Friedland is committed to innovative research. He is interested in using AI, machine learning and statistics to improve care for patients with ear, nose and throat disorders. Dr. Friedland partners with data scientists to use electronic health record information to improve diagnostic accuracy, reducing the number of tests needed and helping patients access appropriate treatments faster. He advocates for responsible AI usage that includes humans in each step of the process. Dr. Friedland’s research has been widely published in peer-reviewed journals, and he is often invited to present his findings at national conferences.
Dr. Friedland is a clinical professor of otolaryngology – head and neck surgery at the Keck School of Medicine of USC. He is also involved in professional organizations including the American Otological Society and the American Neurotology Society.
Dr. Friedland grew up in the Northeast, where he attended medical school. He then spent two decades practicing medicine in the Upper Midwest. Now that he has relocated to Southern California, he is excited to explore all this area has to offer.
