Hirsch Matani, MD, is dedicated to creating a supportive and compassionate environment for patients undergoing radiation therapy for cancer at the USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center, part of Keck Medicine of USC. He was inspired to pursue oncology as his specialty by his mother, who was diagnosed with cancer when he was young, giving him an appreciation of the patient side of the disease.
Dr. Matani’s primary research interests include using radiation treatment advances to improve treatment effectiveness and the patient experience, in part by decreasing side effects of radiation alone or in combination with other therapies.
He also focuses on creating novel lab tests to gain insights into how tumors develop and how best to combat them. Dr. Matani is also passionate about improving the reach of radiation treatments and cancer care to underserved communities.
In his free time, he enjoys watching and playing sports, going to concerts and being in nature, from beaches to hiking in the mountains.
