Bariatric Surgery and Weight Loss Management
Our bariatric surgeons work with a team of specialists to help you reach your long-term weight loss goals.
Expert, Personalized Treatments for Obesity and Weight Loss
At Keck Medicine of USC, our comprehensive team of specialists is dedicated to helping you treat obesity and meet your weight loss and metabolic health goals. Obesity is a chronic, lifelong condition, and our weight-management program is designed to create a personalized plan that works for your unique lifestyle and needs. Our team works to design a treatment plan that might consist of working with a dietitian to learn healthy eating habits, endoscopic procedures, weight-loss medication, bariatric surgical procedures and more.
State-of-the-Art Bariatric Surgery
Our expert surgeons routinely perform multiple types of weight-loss surgery, including laparoscopic gastric band, gastrectomy and the very common gastric bypass procedure. Bariatric surgery is a safe procedure that is proven to be an effective, long-term treatment for obesity and metabolic complications. We also specialize in revisional surgery and endoscopy for patients who have undergone weight-loss surgery and who may be experiencing a variety of symptoms or complications after the operation.
Lifestyle Support and Postoperative Care
Our multidisciplinary team includes bariatric surgeons, gastroenterologists, endocrinologists, dietitians, social workers, psychologists, psychiatrists and nurses — all of whom work together to ensure your optimal results. These specialists provide not only treatment but also nutritional, medical and psychiatric support to help you establish new habits for life.
Surgical Expertise
Our surgeons are experts in life-changing procedures including:
- Laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy
- Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery
We also specialize in revisional surgery and endoscopy for patients who have undergone weight loss surgery and who may be experiencing a variety of symptoms or complications after the operation.
Minimally Invasive Treatment
For those who do not qualify for bariatric surgery, experts from our Endobariatric Program can provide minimally invasive digestive health treatments for obesity and metabolic disease. These minimally invasive techniques allow for a shorter, more comfortable recovery.
Our endobariatric specialists are highly experienced in such endoscopic weight loss procedures as:
- Endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty (suturing of the stomach)
- Duodenal mucosal resurfacing (for type 2 diabetes patients)
- Endoscopic transoral outlet reduction (for patients with weight gain after gastric bypass surgery)
Join our Bariatric Surgery Support Group
Our bariatric surgery program includes a support group for patients. Support groups are run by a psychologist, program coordinator or dietitian.
In a support group, you’ll find people who have similar wellness goals, want to celebrate your successes, and support you in challenging times. Support groups are devoted to these common experiences, so you can share your feelings in a safe environment.
Keck Medicine of USC support groups are held 6-7 p.m. at:
